FOOD REVIEW: Tyrrell’s Sweet Chilli & Red Pepper English Potato Chips and President’s Choice Shrimp Pad Thai


Anyone who knows me knows I love potato chips. And boy did I love Tyrrell’s Sweet Chilli & Red Pepper English Potato Chips. Nice, crunchy, kettle-cooked chips liberally and evenly sprinkled with their fiery seasoning… though I was scared of chipping a tooth! As the website explains, they’re cooked by hand in small batches with the skins on because it’s “polite.” Aw, who knew potatoes had feelings, let alone modesty issues?


Tyrrell’s also makes other nibbbles like popcorn, veggie chips, and seasoned nuts, but I think I’ll stick with the good ‘ole russet. Their selection is pretty vast, too! I’m going to keep a look out for the Honey Roasted Ham & Cranberry or even the Sunday Best Roast Chicken, considering Superstore discontinued its roast chicken potato chips! I was probably the only customer keeping that flavour in production…

Speaking of Superstore, this little guy was on sale for $3 and I was really craving Pad Thai at the moment. Can you blame me?


Anyway, I thought to try it out to see if it stood up to the great take-out I’ve had in Vancouver. It didn’t, but what did I expect? Something flown in straight from Thailand? The best description of this frozen meal is adequate considering its price. A little flavourless, but the shrimp were nice. Noodles a bit too soft for my liking, but for goodness sake I put it in the microwave. Nothing heats up evenly in that contraption so I nuke the hell out of it. As Nelson Muntz from The Simpsons says, ya gotta nuke something!
